Found in coast live oak leaf litter. Placed on the datura only for the sake of the photoshoot.
Here is, probably, the same species of spider from under a different oak on the other side of this house: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/202240041 . I ran into many of them on each occasion as I was weeding around the oaks.
I generally don’t make an observation of the same critter twice, since my photos aren’t great, but this spider was so striking under my headlamp that I wondered if it really was the same kind of spider. Those fine hairs appear blue across its entire body when lit up by a flashlight at certain angles— though I did not set out to capture that in these photos. The effect is most visible in Photo #4.
