Shrub, about 2.5 meters tall. In fruit. On alluvial chaparral plain, on N edge of Padua Park, Claremont, CA. Part of the San Antonio Canyon floodplain, San Gabriel Mountains foothills. Coin used for scale is a US quarter dollar (¢25 piece), 24.26 mm, 0.955 inch in diameter.
This species was found on a brush dry soil hillside. They have large stems ranging from 10-15 inches and the flower is the size of a golf ball. Sunny skies and approximately 65 degrees F.
