growing atop rotting log in wet mature mixed forest; I am a complete bryophyte neophyte but seems to match the form and fruiting bodies of images of P, pulcherrimum that I found in a nature blog from New York state. Comments or confirmation greatly appreciated.
@maureen_c-m look at this cool liverwort!
Sporangia of the Beautiful Small Liverwort, Ptilidium pulcherrimum. Aka Tree Fringewort and Naugahyde Liverwort.
I found this along the driveway at my cottage, on an old rotting log. Damp coastal mixed woods.
In the understory of a largely coniferous forest.
