Pink-red KOH on cap. Brownish-wine color KOH on stipe and some on flesh. Cap slimy.
Larger pores, spongy, on Tsuga I think.

Oak-associated Russula exact match to Russula bifurcata - right color, odor, taste, spore size and ornamentation, peelablity, stipe texture (like a R. xerampelina), but not at all fishy as in R. grundii
Stem white bruising faintly yellowish. Light buff gills (spores very pale yellow, almost white). Cap viscid, light to dark scarlet on pale pinkish buff.

These very bitter stocky boletes with distinctive netting and red on stipes were common under Western Hemlock trees along the Summerland trail at Mt Rainier NP. 4600' elevation. Blue where cut. Used Michael Beug "Mushrooms of Cascadia" to ID; will dry specimen.
