Third Nature Walk

As I walked home from class today, I decided to explore a lake by my house. The weather today was chilly, with slight precipitation and breaks in the clouds every now and then. As I walked along the lake, I was able to observe several species of plants, from big to small. For example, I observed a large Weeping Willow across the lake, as well as some evergreen trees. I also took time to observe smaller species of plants, such as Asters, Impatiens, and fruit baring plants such as crabapples and spindles. As I kept walking, I couldn't help but also observe the abundance of species of moss growing on rocks and tress around the neighborhood. I was also able to identify some ferns and other species of plants growing in the grass, and was very fascinated by how many types of plants there are growing around us.

Second Nature Walk

As I walked to class from my off-campus house today, I traversed through a trail in my route. On this trail, I stumbled upon several tree trunks with fungi growing on them. Today was a very cold, overcast day, so it was difficult finding fungi. Once I did, however, I was very surprised by the intricate detail and shape that each fungi had. The Turkey-Tail, for example, definitely captured my attention with its colors and design. As I made my way to campus, I also walked through the Pine Tree Preserve at Boston College. Walking through here, I payed close attention to the ground, and was lucky enough to find three mushrooms. It was definitely hard finding these fungi lurking around much larger species of plants, but I was certainly impressed by what I saw.

First iNaturalist Nature Walk

As I left class today and walked home, I decided to record any observations that I had made along the way. I found this as the perfect excuse to check out a trail by my off-campus house. As I wandered my way along this small, tight trail, I stumbled upon several dead trees with bacteria and fungi growing on them. I also was able to capture a very sneaky chipmunk as it was camouflaged among one of these dead trees. I then made my way home and observed a beautiful tree with berries growing from it, as well as a stunning monarch butterfly resting on a plant. I also observed some radiant impatiens, and sparrows enjoying the beautiful, clear, warm weather.
