The smooth oval seeds seem to confirm that these are Clasping Venus's Looking-Glass.
This is at the lower limits of resolution for my Canon PowerShot SX740 camera. The grid on the backdrop has 5 mm squares.

These 2.5 to 3 mm gray beetles were super-abundant on most prickly-pear flowers. On enlargement, they can be seen to have mostly red-orange legs.

Suku AcmaeoderaHavainnoija
gcwarblerKuvaus
These small Acmaeodera were common on prickly-pear flowers. Most were on the order of 5 to 7 mm long.
The yellow elytral markings were quite variable but usually formed a fairly complete dorsal-lateral stripe which is slightly curved/bowed in the proximal half.
On 27 pages of Acmaeodera on BG (about 130 spp illustrated), I'm not finding a particularly close match to anything. Based on the key and illustrations in Hansen (2023; link on BG), this may be some form of A. neglecta or A. neoneglecta.

Apparently these are the fresh cones on this joint-fir. I don’t know that I’d ever seen them like this.

iNat’s CV is so “used to” seeing Black Swallowtail larvae on this species that it lists that butterfly as 2nd choice here—even though there’s no larva present!

First of the season in our yard and an uncommon migrant here in suburbia. The same as a male Painted Bunting did last year, we watched this PABU jump up and eat some seeds of Scribner's Panicgrass (Panicum oligosanthes ssp. scribnerianum; which can be seen blurry in the picture). See,
