Possibly Western Ribbon Snake, seen on my driveway in Baton Rouge, LA. A little surprised to see him today as we had a frost last night, and he was staying in the shade rather than moving to the sunny part of the driveway a few feet away.

Hard spherical fruit body about 1.5 cm diameter, bright red with pale speckles, found in Baton Rouge under mainly oak and sweetgum trees. Several of these appear to fall from some unidentified tree in the area.

"Blue Daze" cultivar of Evolvulus glomeratus, freshly planted in pine straw mulch. The flowers bloom all summer long and are about 1 inch (2.5 cm) across, with five pale lavender or powder blue petals and white centers. The oval leaves and woody stems are densely downy, covered with a light silvery fuzz.
