I am a retired arachnologist and entomologist now living in Washington state, Prior to that I spent 32 years in New Mexico and I grew up in Arizona. I have a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Arizona and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. My specialty in arachnids was the Salticidae (jumping spiders) and I revised several genera over the years. I am author or co-author of ten chapters in Spiders of North America, including most "clubionoid" families and Salticidae. I spent 19 years involved in the Forth of July Butterfly Count for the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) as a leader in the Organ Mountains count (now defunct unfortunately) and 13 years of that as editor of the count for Arizona and New Mexico. I am also one of the editors (and one of the founders) for The Spiders of the Arid Southwest on the Internet and for the online journal Peckhamia devoted to jumping spiders. I am also a bird watcher and have some interest in botany. Lately I have involved myself in a project on the microorganisms in the city parks of my current city of residence. I have had a side interest in these for a number of years and am one of the editors for the Diatoms of the Arid Southwest.
