I studied marine biology at the University of Miami, but went to work as an analytical chemist. I was the American representative to the Russian Antarctic Expedition at Vostok Station for one season. Afterwards, I worked as an environmental chemist for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for about 20 years, working with inorganic mercury, pesticides, and inorganic anions. Now, I'm a fiction writer with a fondness for looking at bugs.
