Since moving into the San Diego County backcountry some 40 years ago, I became interested in learning about the native plants of this region. Lots of self-study, volunteer rare plant surveys (SDSU), and early on became field associate with the San Diego Natural History Museum Botany Department and long-term participant in the San Diego County Plant Atlas Project. Started working for California State Parks in 1997 doing Tamarisk control in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Because of my botanical knowledge I participated in plant surveys in the current three state parks within the Colorado Desert District; Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and Palomar Mountain State Park. I'm currently the manager for our District Herbarium, Borrego Springs, California (BSCA). Additionally, did surveys in former State Parks in our District: Picacho State Recreation Area, Indio-Hills Palms, Salton Sea State Recreation Area, and Mount San Jacinto SP.
