Hi all, thanks for checking out my profile page. I was a birder for many years, but then tried out a macro lens and got really into insect photography and identifying. I mostly stay near where I live an work in Sacramento, California, USA.

My favorite taxa include Robber Flies (Asilidae), Hover Flies (Syrphidae), Dragon/Damselflies (Odonata), and Lady Beetles (Coccinellidae).

I am very much for renaming any living species that is named after a person, especially if that person was horrible. If you haven't heard, North American birds are currently being renamed to correct this error (how about plants, fungi, and all animals next!?).

Since 2023 most of my photos have been candid insect photos using natural light and my Canon Rebel T7 with a Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens.

My profile pic is a robber fly in the subfamily Asilinae, a group which often cannot be identified by photos. This photo is one of my favorite ways to photograph insects - when they're perched in their favorite sunny spot in an otherwise shadowy forest. I like the dramatic affect of the dark background.
