I am an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology and affiliate faculty in the Department of Environment and Sustainability at the University at Buffalo (SUNY). I have taught previously at Colgate University (Geography) and the University of Memphis (Earth Sciences). I hold a Ph.D. in Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences from Michigan State University (2019), with specializations in Quaternary paleoecology, pollen analysis, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction. I have published on these topics as well as historical ecology, glacial geology, geoarchaeology, and the Anthropocene. I maintain an active field- and laboratory-based research program focusing on the Late Quaternary paleoecology of temperate forested ecosystems of eastern North America, with an emphasis on anthropogenic and centennial- to millennial-scale paleoclimatic modulators of vegetation change. I utilize pollen, charcoal, plant macrofossils, environmental magnetism, and geochemical data from sediment cores extracted from lakes, wetlands, and floodplains to reconstruct past environmental conditions.
