Let's Identify Some Observations!

Hi Everyone!

We're doing awesome in the tally this month for observations (6th place) and species (6th) place - however, it seems the bragging rights judging criteria will be based on the number of research grade observations per project.

As such, I ask everyone to take a moment and browse through the observations in the project and try to help identify some of those which need an ID!

Here's a filtered list you can work from here:

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&project_id=2021-oregon-state-university-f-w-club---tws-bioblitz&quality_grade=needs_id&subview=table&verifiable=any

Lets try and identify as many of our team's observations that are in need as possible to bump ourselves up in the official rating for July!

Also - you can invite friends, students, or classmates to help - the IDs just have to happen and those can be by any iNat user. I may advertise for help in some of our social media channels.

Keep observing!

-Daniel

Latest Stats

Hi Everyone,

Our observations, species and observer count has skyrocketed - moving us up on the leaderboard! Here's a summary....

Out of 25 Clubs:

  • We're 5th in total observations! (895...current first place is just above 1400)
  • 5th in total number of species! (479...This is really close, most clubs are only a handful above us, with first at 697 species)
  • 2nd in number of observers! (19 total right now, first is 23rd!)

As such, be on the lookout for species you haven't observed and add them in! Don't forget any living (or previously living and now dead) observation counts. Insects, trees, fish, mammals, birds, fungi - go find them! Take a hike somewhere you haven't been before and start snapping away!

If you have any OSU friends who want to join, have them join this project and we'll add them to the filter! The more the merrier and it would be awesome to be the top participating club in the country!

Happy observing!

So many observations!

Keep submitting those observations! 528 total observations and counting.

We remain on the leaderboard - 8th in total observations and 7th in total species. However, I want to give a shout to yellowopossum - who is currently 11th out of 181 for total observations at the TWS project level! Great job!!

If you are competitive (like me) and want to track stats at the TWS level, you can find them here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/tws-student-chapter-bioblitz-2021

Keep submitting! A push of just a few observations per person - and even better - species per person - will rocket Oregon State University to the top!

Also - you can see a map of observations from our team here:

Wow!

Thanks for the great push everyone!!

We have moved up to 7th place out of 20 clubs for number of observations, but even more exciting we're in 4th place for the number of people on our project! If everyone who has joined posts at least one observation, we will be number 2 just behind Purdue! (In order for a project member to count as an observer, you must have posted at least one observation).

Keep going!!

Welcome!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to this year's Summer TWS BioBlitz!!!

A few quick notes....

1) If biological, no matter what taxa or how common, you can post it! Plants, Animals, Fungi! Just avoid anything in captivity or that is human tended (i.e. your flowers in your garden, or animals at the zoo)
2) It's ok to post the same species more than once - i.e. you saw a deer on Monday, and another on Wednesday - post them both!
3) We are currently in 10th place out of over 20 schools! Keep posting!

Jared will be following up with special bonuses for our club members to participate - more on that soon!
