Ben je ook zo gecharmeerd van Tinder ? Voor iNaturalist is een app gemaakt die net zo werkt als Tinder. Op de webpagina van iNaturalist.org is al een erg goed werkende Identificatie tool beschikbaar. Maar als je op een prettige en snelle manier de fotos in de goede soortgroep Vogels, Planten of Dieren wil zetten (rubriceren) is er nog wel een verbetering mogelijk. Deze iNaturalist “Tinder” is er voorzowel de iPhone als de Android.

On different occasions in the forum I have now seen it mentioned that there is a growing discrepancy in numbers between the amount of observers and identifiers.

From my experience the Identification tool on the homepage is already extremely well done . For some specific tasks though, e.g. identifying lots of observations coarsely, I think there might be some improvements. I would like to help to make identifying a bit easier and a bit more fun.

I am a smartphone app developer and have made a rough “tinder” like identifying app. For now I have followed only my own needs in the development. However, I am looking for some people who want to try it out and give me some feedback to see if that is something that the community could possibly use. Also to see where it would need to be developed further.

• go into robot mode using a list of easily identifiable organisms (add &list_id=###### to URL)
• search for observations with “think” or “maybe” or “weird” or other words in the Description section
• identify a group of organisms, but exclude the common species, e.g. milkweeds but not common milkweed/Asclepias syriaca
• use the “Low Rank” feature to show observations that haven’t been refined to species yet, e.g. obs in the Chicago area at rank=genus and above

As I’ve started using this, my technique is to coarsely id the ones I know I can go finer with. After doing that for a bit, I pull up this view on desktop:

This view pulls up all the ones I just id’d to go back over for both refinement and checking. The checking step is necessary for me because besides catching my inevitable mistakes, I like to zoom in on many things to doublecheck for birds in trees etc. Even with my extra step that lengthens the id process, I feel the overall process is more efficient for me than without using the app.

An in-app zoom function (pinch-expand?) would be handy if doable.

Op iNaturalist zijn honderden, so niet duizenden projecten die Microscopie, Voedselplanten van rupsen, schimmels of Nectarplanten aangeven. Ik ken een voorbeeld waar je aan de hand van vliegtijden van mannetjes, voedselzoeksters, werksters of koninginnen de miersoort kon achterhalen.

Leuke Projecten op iNaturalist zoals Camera vallen, Aliens species en audio waarnemingen(23)

Op dit moment is Inaturalist al weer bezig met de zesde versie van het Computer Kijk (Computer Vision) model
waarbij in September 2020 18 miljoen fotos apart gezet zijn waarme zo'n 35.000 soorten wereld wijd herkend kunnen worden.
De aanpak is het zelfde als voor model 5 alleen met veel meer fotos omdat er nu veel meer soorten in iNaturalist
2000 fotos heeft. In het verleden werden wel meer dan 2000 fotos per soort gebruikt maar de extra rekenkracht weegt niet op tegen het succes.
In totaal zal het doorrekenen van het model 210 dagen kosten en in het voorjaar van 2021 klaar zijn.
Naast het doorrekenen van hetzelfde model met meer fotos en meer soorten wordt tgelijkertijd het huidige systeem vergeleken
met "TensorFlow 2, Xception vs Inception" wat waarschijnlijk ditzelfde model niet in 210 dagen maar in 60 dagen doorrekend.
Als dit nieuwe TensorFlow 2, Xception vs Inception goed werkt dan wordt het zelfs nog winter 2021 een nieuwe model opgeleverd.
Om dit door rekenen was een nieuwe hardware besteld maar door COVID is dit nog niet geinstalleerd.
In het huidige model zijn 25.000 van de 300.000 soorten die waargenomen zijn in iNaturalist.

Hoe wordt nu bepaald of een soort opgenomen wordt in het model ?
Als van een soort 100 waarnemingen met foto waarvan er minsten 50 een Research Grade community ID heeft wordt opgenomen in de training. (actually, that’s really verifiable + would-be-verifiable-if-not-captive, In het model worden ook ontsnapte en gekweekte soorten opgenomen). Voor de training wordt dus niet alleen en uitsluitend Research Grade fotos gebruikt.

Validation Set 1

Met deze groep fotos wordt tijdens de training de voortgang van de training bekeken, een Toets of Examen dat het trainingmodel moet afleggen. De eisen aan deze validatieset zijn hetzelfde als van de Training Set 1 maar het is maar 5% van het aantal fotos.

TestSet 1

Met deze groep fotos wordt als de training is afgelopen gekeken of het model goed werkt. Het betreft uitsluitend
fotos met een Community taxon, dus fotos die waarschijnlijk wel goed moeten zijn omdat meerdere personen een determinatie toegeveogd hebben aan de waarneming.
Het bijzondere is dus dat aan de training ook minder zekere fotos mee mogen doen terwijl het testen tegen absoluut zekere waarnemingen gedaan wordt.

Om te voorkomen dat er te veel soorten zijn waarvan er te weinig fotos zijn worden er niet te veel beperkingen aan de fotos gesteld. In de toekomst worden de eisen misschien strenger

Croppen van fotos, Volgorde, Best Photo First

Al hoewel het op iNaturalist neit vaak gezegd wordt is het Croppen van een foto een goede methode om betere resultaten te krijgen.
Het model neemt ook geografische data nog niet echt mee. In het verleden werden enorme aantallen Californische soorten voorgesteld maar in de loop van de modellen is dat wel afgenomen.

Best Photo First
Het is naast croppen erg verstandig om je beste foto het eerste neer te zetten omdat het model alleen de eerste foto van de waarneming gebruikt om een voorstel voor de soort te doen.
De locatie, nauwkeurigheid van een foto die je neemt buiten de iNat app om is meestasl minder nauwkeurig dan wanner je de interne app gebruikt van iNat. Ook kun je dan inzoomen met je vingers spread out, zodat je de crop functionaliteit niet hoeft te gebruiken. Het model gebruikt niet het tijd van het seizoen (eikels en kastanjes in de herfst, Trekvogels in voorjaar en herfst. Geen zomervogels als gierzwaluw in de winter en verspreidinggegevens van soorten.. ALpenroosjes worden niet tot de ALpen beperkt.

Neural Networks (specifically, VGG16) pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset with Python and the Keras deep learning library.

The pre-trained networks inside of Keras are capable of recognizing 1,000 different object categories, similar to objects we encounter in our day-to-day lives with high accuracy.

Back then, the pre-trained ImageNet models were separate from the core Keras library, requiring us to clone a free-standing GitHub repo and then manually copy the code into our projects.

This solution worked well enough; however, since my original blog post was published, the pre-trained networks (VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, Inception V3, and Xception) have been fully integrated into the Keras core (no need to clone down a separate repo anymore) — these implementations can be found inside the applications sub-module.

Because of this, I’ve decided to create a new, updated tutorial that demonstrates how to utilize these state-of-the-art networks in your own classification projects.

Specifically, we’ll create a special Python script that can load any of these networks using either a TensorFlow or Theano backend, and then classify your own custom input images.

Wat is de stand van zaken rond het toekomstige stadsdeel De Suikerzijde? Op dit moment worden alle procedures doorlopen die nodig zijn voor de start van de bouw in deelgebied noord. Het gaat om het voorontwerp bestemmingsplan, de voorontwerp structuurvisie en het milieueffectrapport. De Suikerzijde komt op het suikerfabriekterrein.

Onderdeel van de procedures is ecologisch onderzoek. Daaruit bleek dat voor de geoorde fuut, de meervleermuis en de watervleermuis gebieden nodig zijn, die het verlies van broed- en foerageergebied compenseren. Daarom worden de vloeivelden in het zuidwestelijke deel van dit gebied omgevormd tot een rijk natuurgebied. Er komen onder andere nieuwe bomen en houtopstanden, dat zijn groepjes bomen en/of struiken.

De voorbereidende werkzaamheden zijn begonnen. Het is de bedoeling om de werkzaamheden begin februari af te ronden, vóórdat het broedseizoen begint. Dat is nodig om begin 2023 te kunnen starten met de bouw van de eerste woningen. Op zoek naar een WarmtePompBoiler en evt als bijverwarming voor de L/Lucht Warmtepomp de oude CV radiatoren weer een beetje verwarmen. Monobloc Enzavu menig woning helpen het gasgebruik flink terug te schroeven. Opvallendste kenmerk: hij heeft geen buitenunit en bezorgt de buren dus geen overlast. Monobloc systemen zijn stiller.

    van 4450 euro (Remeha Ace, 4 kW split) tot 7575 euro (Bosch Compress, 5 kW monoblock). De duurste warmtepomp in de test, de 5kW-monoblock van Bosch, is volgens de Consumentenbond ook de stilste, en er kan bovendien de meeste energie mee worden bespaard. Een stopcontact van 16A*220V trekt 3.5kwh maar kan dit wel continu trekken.

stadswarmtepomp van Enzavu menig woning helpen het gasgebruik flink terug te schroeven. Opvallendste kenmerk: hij heeft geen buitenunit en bezorgt de buren dus geen overlast.

Berekening WarmtePomp Vermogen bij 3m3 gas/dag, 800m3/jaar

Heb je laag vermogen nodig dan neem je een lucht lucht warmptepomp. Een winter telt tegenwoordig 30 dagen en geen 60 dagen en in 2020 was er geen enkele vorstdag.
Neem het gasverbruik (2-3m3/per dag) van een (erg) koude dag waarbij weinig gedouched wordt, deel dat door 24 (uren in een dag) en vermenigvuldig dat met 9(draaiuren). Dat is het vermogen wat je nodig hebt.
Nu we weten hoeveel het totaal aan bewoonbare oppervlakte onze woning is, kunnen we verder het vermogen van onze warmtepomp berekenen. We doen dit door het bekomen totaal te vermenigvuldigen met een waarde per M² uitgedrukt in Watt (W). Deze waarde is verschillend per bouwjaar van de woning omdat in de loop der jaren de isolatiewaarde is toegenomen.

1. Voor woningen gebouwd voor 2000 neem je de factor/waarde 80 Watt (Oppervlakte 100m2)
2. Voor woningen gebouwd tussen 2000 en 2010 neem je de factor/waarde 60 Watt (vermogen 6kwh)
3. Voor woningen gebouwd tussen 2010 en 2017 neem je de factor/waarde 50 Watt (Oppervlakte 100m2)
4. Voor woningen gebouwd na 2017 neem je de factor/waarde 40 Watt (vermogen 4kwh)

Zo merk je dat de warmtepomp voor een oude woning twee maal zoveel vermogen zal nodig hebben dan een nieuwbouwwoning.

Als we even teruggrijpen naar onze grote woning en ons klein appartementje krijg je volgende benodigde vermogens:

1. Grote woning van 200 M² met bouwjaar 1995: 200x80 = 16.000 Watt of 16kW
2. Grote woning van 200 M² met bouwjaar 2018: 200x40 = 8.000 Watt of 8kW
3. Appartement/rijwoning van 75 M² met bouwjaar 1995: 75x80 = 6.000 Watt of 6kW

4. Appartement/rijwoning van 75 M² met bouwjaar 2018: 75x40 = 3.000 Watt of 3kW
   Opgelet: het berekende vermogen is ook afhankelijk van hoe warm je steeds wenst te hebben. Als de woning steeds wenst te verwarmen tot 24° celcius heb je meer vermogen nodig dan als je tevreden bent met een 20-tal graden celcius.

Rekenvoorbeeld besparing hybride warmtepomp
Ter illustratie een voorbeeldsom om de mogelijke besparing uit te rekenen: Een huis verbruikt 1.200 m³ gas en er wonen 4 personen. Een persoon gebruikt ongeveer 100 m³ gas voor warm water: 4 x 100 m³ = 400. Dan blijft er dus 800 m³ over voor verwarmen.
De hybride warmtepomp neem 2/3e daarvan voor zijn rekening: 600 m³ aardgasbesparing per jaar. Uit 1 m³ aardgas kun je 9,77 kWh aan energie halen.• Kosten gas: € 0,8055 m³/ 9,77 = € 0,0824 kWh
• Kosten elektra = € 0,2255/kWh 600 m³ aardgas x 9,77 = 7.816 kWh. Het ketelrendement is 90 %. 7.816 kWh x 90 % = 7.034 kWh warmte.
De benodigde elektriciteit voor de warmtepomp bij een SCOP van 4 = 1.758,6 kWh (7.034 kW gedeeld door 4)
• Kosten warmtepomp: 1758,6 x 0,2255 = € 396,56
• Besparing warmtepomp: 800 m³ gas x € 0,8055 = € 644,40
• Netto besparing op jaarbasis = € 247,84
Let wel: dit is bij een SCOP van 4. Als je met deze COP wegkomt heb je een relatief lage afgiftetemperatuur en is ook een ‘volledige’ (standalone) warmtepomp mogelijk. Heb je hogere afgiftetemperaturen, dan zal de SCOP snel lager zijn en moet het huis dermate goed zijn geïsoleerd dat de 2/3e besparing op gas mogelijk is.

Did you know that when you share observations on iNaturalist, you are also contributing to the Encyclopedia of Life? When multiple members of the iNaturalist community agree with an identification, an observation with photo/sound and location becomes research grade. The observation data then flows to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, and images flow to EOL.

This project aims to act as a fun community for users across the world to document organisms through monthly challenges, with the research grade images ending up on EOL.

These are EOL Collections that have been "citizen science enabled" through integration with iNaturalist. When you visit these collections, look for the "iNaturalist Observations" tab, where you'll see all of the observation activity community members have made. Some of our group members here are also posting their Flickr images to iNaturalist, the social network for naturalists. iNaturalist works really well with Flickr. You can import your Flickr images as observations while preserving your map data. They also have a nifty tagging tool that makes it easy to create taxonomic machine tags for your images.

EOL is now harvesting images from iNaturalist, so you can feed your images to EOL either by posting them to the EOL images group or by importing them to iNaturalist. Note however, that we import images from iNaturalist only if your identification has been confirmed by the iNaturalist community. So this is a great way of getting your identifications checked if you are not sure. They even have a special ID Please! group where you can ask for help. If your identification gets confirmed by the iNaturalist community, you don't have to wait for an EOL curator to promote your image to trusted status, so iNaturalist is another way of getting your images vetted.

iNaturalist has other cool tools, e.g., they automatically create a life list of observed species for you and you can participate in special projects to map the distribution of species on the planet. Also, iNaturalist reports confirmed observations of wild or naturalized organisms to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), so the data points you contribute may be used in scientific studies, and they will show up in GBIF maps on EOL pages.

Trekvogelsymposium - webinar 22/11/20 13:00 - 16:30

Als gevolg van de ontwikkelingen inzake COVID-19 kan het geplande trekvogelsymposium helaas niet meer fysiek plaatsvinden. Geen nood echter: we organiseren een waardig alternatief in de vorm van een online event!

Op 22 november organiseren we een webinar over trekvogels waarbij verschillende experten een presentatie geven over het natuurfenomeen dat vogeltrek heet.

On the Discord chat platform, we have developed a bot called Dronefly for accessing iNat in conversations. To use it, join a Discord server where it is present and try some of the examples explained in this tutorial.

In the screenshots below, you will find conversations between various of our users and the Dronefly bot. Each conversation shows a line typed by the user followed by the bot’s response. Except for link previews, the user typically starts their message with the command prefix, which is a comma (,) immediately followed with a command and then its parameters. For example, in the second screenshot you can see ,sp used to search for a species matching the parameter.

The main ways to interact with the bot are illustrated below.

Observations

Just cut-and-paste an observation link in any channel. This is one of the few texts Dronefly responds to without being specifically requested for a response via a command starting with a comma. Dronefly responds to observation links to supplement Discord’s own automatic image preview with a summary of the important information on the page.

Taxonomy

Type enough words to the ,taxon command (abbreviated ,t) to match. To narrow it down, type the name of the rank. You can also use in to match within another taxon, e.g. ,t prunella in birds to distinguish from Prunella (self-heals). Basic usage is shown below using ,sp, a shortcut for ,taxon species. See ,help taxon for more examples.

You’ll notice a list of iNat user ids at the bottom with counts of observations & species (actually leaf taxon nodes, as iNat counts taxa). To help others in the conversation review & compare their observations of that taxon, you may click the buttons on the bottom to add or remove yourself or any other user who has shared their iNat profile.

Images

Use the ,image command (abbrevated ,img) to show a taxon’s default image.

Sounds

Any observation that has a sound will preview the first one. On the desktop, this shows as an inline player. On mobile, tap the link to download & play on your usual audio player.

Maps

A popular bot feature requested from our Discord users is to map the ranges of multiple taxa together. Use the ,map command, followed by a comma-delimited list of taxa.

Note: to better see where ranges overlap, individual map layers can be toggled. Look for the “Overlays” icon in the upper right corner and hover over it to open the menu, then tick or untick the checkboxes.

Learning more commands

You can type ,help iNat and the bot will respond with an index of all of the commands it can respond to. You can use the ,help command to get help for each command and subcommand (i.e. multi-word commands arranged in a hierarchy under the main command). For example, ,help last for help with the ,last command and to show its subcommands, ,help last obs, for help with the ,last obs subcommand, and to show its subcommands, etc.

Er is -- als ik het goed begrepen heb -- een nieuwe native fotokiezer in iOS 14 die onder andere een zoekveld ondersteund tijdens het selecteren van foto's uit de fotogalerij. Ook zijn de prestaties beter bij het laden/browsen van albums in iCloud. Daarnaast is er ook ondersteuning voor het bladeren van BESTANDEN ipv allen de FOTOKIEZER, op die manier kunnen ook bestanden uit een map geladen worden ipv alleen uit de fotogalerij.

Discord maakt gebruik van guilds (door gebruikers ook wel "servers" genoemd) en kanalen vergelijkbaar met Internet Relay Chat (IRC). Een gebruiker kan een server starten op Discord, en heeft het beheer over zichtbaarheid en toegang. Vervolgens kunnen een of meer chat- en spraakkanalen worden gestart binnen Discord waarin men met elkaar kan chatten en videobellen.

Waterschap Noorderzijlvest is dinsdag aan de Natalie Barneykade in Stad begonnen met het terugbrengen van krabbenscheer. De waterplant is belangrijk voor de zeldzame libel de groene glazenmaker, die een jaar geleden plotseling verdween uit de sloot. Deze Groene Glazenmaker deed nog mee aan de verkiezing Soort van de Provincie Groningen.

Natuureducatie-organisatie IVN Groningen-Haren diende een klacht in, die leidde tot de hersteloperatie van dinsdag.

In de sloot gestort
De transplantatie gebeurt met een maaiboot die grote plakken krabbenscheer uit een sloot tussen de Jakob Israël de Haanstraat en de Jacob Schorerstraat uit het water vist en naar een aanhanger brengt. De waterplant wordt vervolgens enkele honderden meters verderop in de sloot bij de Natalie Barneykade gestort. Het waterschap gaat ervan uit dat-ie vanaf volgend voorjaar weer aangroeit.

Harold van Oosten van Noorderzijlvest: 'We hebben onderzocht waarom de plant een jaar geleden zomaar verdwenen was. We hebben geen verklaring kunnen vinden. Het is gebeurd tijdens opschoningswerkzaamheden. Wij hebben daar geen opdracht voor gegeven. Wie dat wel heeft gedaan, hebben we niet meer kunnen achterhalen.'

Krabbenscheer mag niet zomaar verwijderd worden
Toch voelt Noorderzijlvest zich verantwoordelijk voor het herstel. Het is haar eigen sloot en het schap werkt met de landelijke Gedragscode Flora en Fauna waarin staat dat de krabbenscheer niet zomaar mag worden verwijderd.

'Als je het weghaalt dan moet je de helft laten staan. Gelukkig komt de krabbenscheer hier in De Held veel voor. We halen de helft weg uit deze sloot en transplanteren dat naar de plek waar het verdwenen is.'

Berber de Jong, ecoloog bij Noorderzijlvest: 'De krabbenscheer is een inheemse plant. Hoe het kan dat hij in de sloten in De Held zo goed gedijt weten we niet. Het is geen beschermde plant, maar omdat hij van groot belang is voor de groene glazenmaker zijn we er heel voorzichtig mee.'

Het belang van krabbenscheer
De groene glazenmaker is afhankelijk van de krabbenscheer. De libelle legt zijn eitjes aan de onderkant van het blad van de waterplant en doet dat alleen bij deze soort. De Jong: 'Noorderzijlvest vindt biodiversiteit belangrijk en daarom is het van belang om de krabbenscheer omwille van de glazenmaker zoveel mogelijk te beschermen. Vandaar dat we deze 'transplantatie' zijn begonnen.'

Ook al is een verlandend water of laagveen voor veel planten en dieren een heel interessant leefgebied, in de stad maakt hem dat niet populair onder waterbeheerders, die er hun handen vol aan kunnen hebben sloten en vaarten open te houden. Vroeger gooiden boeren ze wel als meststof op het land. Tegenwoordig gebeurt dat niet meer en in de stad kan dat zeker op de straat niet zodat daar steeds afgevoerd moeten worden. In verband met de grote ecologische waarde van krabbescheer, zowel als zuurstofplant (in het bijzonder in de winter omdat hij dan nog deels groen is) als om het vele leven dat zich er om heen vestigt, moet dat altijd gefaseerd gebeuren. Maar in de praktijk wordt dat ook nog wel eens ‘vergeten’, wat al dikwijls aanleiding gegeven heeft tot hoog op gelopen discussies en rechtszaken aangespannen door natuurbeschermers die de plant, als gastheer voor de groene glazenmaker, op haar grote waarde weten te schatten.

Krabbescheren zijn op veel plaatsen in Groningen te zien, ik noem er slechts enkele als voorbeeld: bij Drielanden, de Held en omgeving van het Reitdiep (op die drie plekken is ook de groene glazenmaker er in waargenomen), nabij Kardinge (Lewenborg / Noorddijk), het Winterpad (naast de Hoornse Plas), de Petrus Campersingel, Damsterdiep enzovoort. Ondanks dat hij (nog) vrij algemeen is is de plant in Nederland toch sterk achteruit gegaan en geldt hij als een gevoelige soort. Voldoende reden om hem op de Rode lijst te plaatsen.

Let er maar eens op. Wie weet, heel misschien kom je er ook de groene glazenmaker wel eens tegen. Maar misschien blijft dat wel bij een droom. Een natte droom.
