We’ve decided to extend the end date for the BioBlitz again. The weather just doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with our plans! We’ll send out another announcement if we have to extend the BioBlitz again or if the cicadas start emerging. Hopefully we’ll start seeing some cicadas soon!

It's the first weekend of the Indiana Cicada Fest! We haven't had any reports yet for adult cicadas emerging, but there have been plenty of nymph and mud chimney sightings around the state! All the entomologists we've consulted with predict that the cicadas should start emerging in the next week to two-weeks (barring a cold snap, of course). One fun way to participate in Cicada Fest would be to visit the area you've picked both before and after the cicadas have emerged. What new organisms will you see? What will be harder to spot? We'll find out soon enough!

You might have noticed that we’ve expanded the date range of the BioBlitz. We did this because we were concerned that the cicadas wouldn’t be out in all of Indiana by the time the project ends. We want to make sure that the people in the chillier parts of Indiana get to participate in the cicada fun too! If we get a cold snap that delays the emergence, we might expand the dates again.
