Saturday 9:20-12:40 pm: 41 dead newts found, no live newts
Weather - from Karan: was 45F, mostly sunny. Rain MTD 1.98 in, YTD 2.91 in per http://www.weathercat.net/wxraindetail.php
I documented 41 dead newts, 15 of them juveniles. Most of them were very fresh. It was raining in San Jose on Friday, during the day and night.
Other roadkills: 2 arboreal salamanders, 1 Jerusalem Cricket and many centipedes and millipedes, a glowworm beetle larva, and - the famous skunk.
Coverage: south part - from Aldercroft Heights Rd to the first stop sign.
Traffic: 1 fire truck, 54 cars (including SJJJ Midpen), 55 bikes, 6 pedestrians, and 11 cars parked by the road.
I met the HTH team at array #6. They said they found about 70-80 live newts, and 10-15 dead ones. they were 2 people I haven't seen before.

@merav, thanks for providing all this info. It's interesting what the HTH team is finding. It would seem the mortality rate is between 14-18% for this half of the newts' journey. I wish they'd be more forthcoming in sharing their data with us. I don't understand why it has to be proprietary.
