Thanks for participating in City Nature Challenge 2021

Thanks, everyone, for adding your observations and IDs to CNC 2021. We ended up with 1153 observations and 365 species, from 58 observers and 158 identifiers. Not too shabby, considering just about no leaves or flowers were out yet, and it was freezing most nights. One of our observations, a Peregrine Falcon by @gracekwong, was among about a dozen observations that were highlighted in the official worldwide results. Some of you got pretty creative; a woolly bear moth was identified based on a cocoon, and a few plants were observed and identified based on last year's stalks and leaves.
Overall, Canada had 49778 observations and 3263 species, and worldwide there were 1.2 million observations and 45000 species, from 419 participating cities. We were the farthest north city in North America, and it's challenging to find things here so early in the season. But there's another bioblitz coming up - the Edmonton BiodiverCity Challenge 2021, from June 10-13. It will be much easier to find things then, so I hope you'll join us! It's the same metro area, and the same ground rules. You can find the project here:

cheers,
Greg Pohl - metro Edmonton biodiversity coordinator
