First, thank you all so much for participating this year! We had great weather and it was a lot of fun to see things as they were coming in.

We had 10 observers out this year

We made 903 verified observations and saw 380 species! Up from 568 observations and 259 species in 2023. A little more than 50% of our observations are research grade.

Mark your calendars for next year's City Nature Challenge, April 25-28, 2025. The CNC will be celebrating their 10th year and the theme is: “Bring the Globe Together for Biodiversity"

Again a little chilly start to the morning and the afternoon turned cold and rainy but we are rocking it! The wind and rain definitely made me head home early. Thanks to all of our participants so far for getting out and helping document what is so special about Susquehanna County!

Is there something that you were sure you would see early on but has still been elusive? Groundhogs are the bane of my existence, tunneling under out stone wall, eating my veggies, gererally being a nusiance... but I haven't see one yet, maybe tomorrow. Two days to go!

The weather was beautiful for the start of the City Nature Challenge! I hope you got to spend some time outdoors today but if you didn't, there's still time to participate. The CNC runs through Monday night and the weekend weather forecast looks pretty good. You don't have to spend all day making observations, but treat yourself, get outside for a half hour, and while you're out there take a couple of pictures of what's around you!

We're sending you this message because you have made observations on INaturalist in Susquehanna County, PA in the past. We'd like to invite you to join us as part of the 2024 City Nature Challenge which starts on Friday April 26 and runs through Monday April 29.

Started in 2016 with just 2 cities, the City Nature Challenge has grown into an annual international four-day bioblitz event and is run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Cities participate in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the event. This will be the second year that Susquehanna County is participating and we're hoping that you can help us by making observations!

If you find yourself in Susquehanna County over these four days, we encourage you to make observations! Our neighboring counties are also participating, so if you have to travel over those days you can still participate and contribute to the overall project.

Finally, if you are an identifier on iNat we could really use your help IDing observations. All IDing needs to be done by May 5th.
