Since I’m brand new to iNaturalist, how do I participate in the bio blitz? Do I tag my observations somehow? Thanks for your help!

Not in this one. You are (or should be, if everything works right) auromatically in for your observations taken between Apr 24 and 27 in the HUGE region shown in the map.

So why tell you and others about it? Motivation. I see folks heading out before dawn each day and taking hundreds if not thousands of pics in the quest to come in at #1. Prize? Um, well, how about the adulation accorded those who finish near the top? Sorry, that's about it. :).
