Tiny frogs and toads used to swarm over the Sierra Nevada. Now, the government says nearly 2 million acres of land needs to be preserved to prevent them from going extinct.

Sorry, but I find that, like most news articles that address critical habitat for endangered species, it really misrepresents what critical habitat is. "Set aside for frogs" is downright misleading. Critical habitat designation prohibits adverse modification of critical habitat, but only if a private citizen needs a federal permit or federal funding. Critical habitat does NOT establish a sanctuary, yet the vast majority of articles in the popular press state or suggest that it does.
