Extremely lucky to be in the right place at the right time as two River Otters decided to mate in Berry Creek! Went on for over 30 min and was quite violent. Lots of vocalizations during and after, too!
This otter dove repeatedly, both along the banks and in the open water of the creek. It made two brief forays onto the bank, leaning back on its hind legs with its front legs on a small tree at one point. Observation lasted from ~ 9:12 - 9:18 am.
I apologize if you're squeamish. This poor otter was struck by a vehicle near a creek that had flooded the night before. You don't realize how big they are until you're struggling to hold one up.
Continuing the invasion of Sage Thrasher into Central Texas that Fall, here is documentation of the species on the Blackland Prairie at Granger Lake. I noted two different individuals at this location; I think the photos represent one of each individual.

Just down the road from a White-tailed Kite, I flushed this Sage Thrasher which also sat briefly for its portrait...a curious pair of rare birds for that region of Texas.
