Wth? Pooped on my cherry! I see these every year.
This observation is uploaded on behalf of my DE Environmental Science class.
The crayfish was found in the headwaters of the Russell Fork River, behind Council High School in Buchanan County, VA. The crayfish was discovered under a rock in shallow, gentle water.
The crayfish is approximately 3.5-4 inches long. Note the blue markings. This blue hue is also on the other side of the legs. Red markings were observed on the head and both sides of the claws. The body itself appeared to be a brownish or olive brown color. We apologize for not being able to provide a photo of the dorsal side of the crayfish (rather blurry).
This particular crayfish had babies under the swimmeretes. The crayfish was gently placed back in the same spot that she was found.
