Discovered by 10-year-old Juniper C. and shared with me by @snakeroot-tal. Appears to be the first record of this species from Yancey County.
Several small clusters; spathes of a few individuals were broken open as if by some foraging critter.

Cove forest of western North Carolina by the Black Mountains
In large numbers around the developed Cradle of Forestry area where soil has been brought in from elsewhere. These grow on a wastewater field near the Pink Beds Trail.
