February 13, 2016 Lake Creek TAW
Five of us enjoyed the unusually warm evening at Lake Creek.
Participants:
I was joined by Bill, Mikael, Myra and Kathy. Nice weather with temps in the low 70’s at the start of monitoring at 6:15pm.
Environmental Conditions:
Air Temp: 18.5C / Water Temp: 20.oC / Sky: 0 (clear) / Water Level: Avg / Rel Humidity: 65%
Observations:
Did not see or hear any amphibs during the pre-listening half hour from 5:45 to 6:15.
We started to hear Rio Grande Leopard Frogs very occasionally, just an intermittent single call or two around 6:30. We logged their calls at ‘C1’ during an ‘official’ 5-minute intense listening period from 7:10 to 7:15. I took a number of recordings, but the ambient noise of car traffic and neighborhood sounds overwhelmed the occasional calls. We could heard them, but recordings were inadequate. I tried to cut and amplify a few recording sections, but the results were worse that the original.
Next month, I bet we will get some activity from several species.
