I am a wildlife and conservation biologist, and am currently the Director of Research for Earthwatch Institute. My research interests are wide: my doctoral research focused on raptor-songbird communities along Seattle's urban-to-wildland gradient, I have conducted frog surveys in Ohio, Washington, and Massachusetts, and I frequently deploy camera traps for mammal surveys. I am exploring better ways to incorporate acoustical evidence of species presence (better recordings and perhaps accompanying spectrograms) as iNaturalist observations. I am interested in collaborative community-based conservation models, particularly in the context of reducing human-wildlife conflicts. Lastly, I am a huge proponent of citizen science, and providing robust structure for citizen-collected data to be validated/verified (as iNat is getting better and better at) so as to be available for analysis and contributions to species conservation and policy.
I have created and continue to administer two projects here on iNaturalist:
Project PorchLight (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/project-porchlight), and
Global Pollinator Watch (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/global-pollinator-watch).
