The planet is changing. Along with increasing road usage coinsciding with increased newt mortality, Climate Change is taking a toll. The newt population number the man gave you is not a static number; it fluctuates with road mortality, Climate Change, habitat destruction (any new homes/building(s), roads, shopping center), and pollution.
