Flowerpot parasol mushrooms

Flowerpot parasol mushrooms, Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, are also commonly known as yellow houseplant mushroom, yellow parasol, flower-pot parasol, or plant-pot dapperling due to their appearance in flowerpots and greenhouses. This fungus is thought to have originated in the tropics and is easily characterized by its vibrant sulfur yellow color. Leucocoprinus birnbaumii contains hyaline basidiospores and can grow in clusters or alone in warm conditions. Flowerpot parasol is a saprophytic mushroom that breaks down dead organic matter in the soil. The study of leucocoprinus birnbaumii led to the isolation of toxic yellow alkaloid compounds called birnbaumins.
